Welcome
But wait, there's more.
Obsidia is now again a guild with active members. It is still not decided whether we will be raiding, however it will remain a home for people who wear rose tinted glasses and remember The Burning Crusade with fondness. If you want to rejoin a community that still cares about playing the game competently and that wants to play exclusively with players of the same mindset; we are here, we are back and we want to kick some ass.
Be it in 10 mans, 5 mans or in PvP.

![]() In World of Warcraft, there is an assumption that there are two major viable play styles. You raid or you PvP. Sure there is the mini game of role playing, but the game is not designed very well for that endeavor. At the moment, I am doing neither. Those who know me will know that I have never been a fan of PvP; I have never been into a game with a heavy PvP theme for a good reason, and furthermore I do not think that World of Warcraft is the best of games for that anyway. However, when I first started playing I was not a raider. I suspect that most people are not; most people start out with WoW on a very casual level with no major plans for the end game. A lot of us got into the game through friends with no real experience of MMORPGs; we made a character, entered the world and let ourselves be wowed by the scenery, by other players, by level 60s, 70s or 80s. We got immersed in the world and our first venture into Wailing Caverns and Deadmines with people we had only just met online and knew nothing about seemed like epic encounters. A lot of players never go into that hardcore guild. A lot of players join leveling guilds, join social guilds. If nothing else people realize at some point or other that they want to see some green text and have someone to vent at and to ask questions. I am intending to start writing my own blog about and for these players. I think a lot of players are a bit bored of the game, are a bit confused by the scope of the game and what to do for their own enjoyment when they hit the endgame. Having gone from a blue eyed, bushy tailed player who pretty much was excited about everything in the game, via a hardcore raider to a casual who still enjoy many aspects of the game, I hope to be able to outline my thoughts on how the game should develop and how we, the casual players of World of Warcraft should evolve and adapt with it. ![]() So I guess I want to make a small news update on this site. As most people who visit this site will know, Farfalla and I decided that we would go back to Obsidia after having spent some time in the now disbanded Cthulhu. We want to thank the officers of Cthulhu for the good times we had there; we had fun re-clearing Black Temple and Mount Hyjal with a new guild, we got to see Sunwell and we had fun. Come Wrath of the Lich King, raiding has changed, at least in our minds. Neither of us are interested in doing 25 mans. Part of the reason must surely be the server we are on, it is not possible to find a roster where both of us would be happy and content in doing 25s. Back in The Burning Crusade, we fully realized that Eonar was in a large part to blame for the issues we had in Obsidia. This has not changed for the better with the new expansion. As such, we decided to return to the guild where our hearts belong. We are not really shooting for raiding at the moment. What we are shooting for is to enjoy the game and enjoy the company of the people we actually like. And to be blunt, that particular faction of players is not growing. Most of our friends have been wiser than us; they have x-realmed and found new homes. Farfalla and I are not looking to x-realm. We are just looking to have some good fun on Eonar in whatever capacity the realm and our own interests and priorities allow. If this sounds like something you would want to be a part of; you can figure out what to do about that. ![]() Huge congratulations to all Obsidians! We have now cleared all current endgame content in The Burning Crusade. It was an amazing feeling to get him down. I would like to thank the raid for an awesome performance; the fight was getting very much under control. However, a huge thanks goes all the guild members as such. We have made a real team effort to get where we are now. A lot of people unfortunately had to sit out for our first kill; I hope everyone knows that the efforts put into all stages of our progression have been hugely appreciated. Whereas killing Illidan was a sweet thing, we would never have made it there in the first place. We have made very, very quick progress, and that progress has been brought on by all players attending raids. The general feeling in raid and on Ventrilo was obviously one of elation. Right now we are by far the most progressed Horde raiding guild, and killing Illidan puts us up with the finest guilds on the server. I know for one I am very proud to be part of this, and I hope this feeling is shared. I do not think any of us, when forming Obsidia months ago, that we would be where we are now. Thankfully we have avoided many of the pitfalls we have seen consume many Horde guilds. I would like to thank the ones who founded Obsidia and also everyone who has joined along the way. We have made a very solid guild; let us build on our accomplishments and look forward to repeating our successes in Tier Six content, then move on to Sunwell. ![]() ![]() Yeah so I am a little late in updating this thing. Last week Obsidia advanced to being 8/9 BT after killing Illidari Council for the first time. It is not a week later and here is how things stand at the moment. We are improving our time spent in raids by being able to clear Hyjal Summit and the first part of Black Temple in a couple of days. Tonight we went back and killed Reliquary of Souls, Mother and Illidari Council, clearing the way up to Illidan Stormrage with two raiding days left. I think we should all feel proud of our accomplishments. Tier Six content clearing has gone very fast and smoothly, and to some extent we are at a point where we definitely do not outgear the encounters any longer. That being said, we are still improving and showing that we have what it takes to clear the end game. Illidan is coming up, and we hope to see a kill this week obviously. ![]() ![]() Last week's raids brought some more progress to Obsidia. New kills that week consisted of Reliquary of Souls and Mother Shahraz in Black Temple, making the raid progress come pretty close to finishing the current end game content of The Burning Crusade. Being able to finish The Battle for Hyjal Summit in a single day meant that we had another day of doing progress in Black Temple. On Monday we were able to down Reliquary of Souls. ![]() On Tuesday, after having spent many hours scrambling for Shadow Resist Greens and mats for making the Black Temple resistance items, we ventured to Mother Shahraz and were able to kill her on the second attempt of the night. Pew Pew. This week we will hopefully not only reproduce the efforts, but with the new found experience we should be able to get some meaningful tries in on Illidari Council. To Be Continued. ![]() Obsidia kills Gurtogg Bloodboil Tuesday, February 19 was our first day of tries on the fifth boss in Black Temple, Gurtogg Bloodboil. We knew that it would probably be the first real test in Black Temple, the bosses preceding Gurtogg being of a lower difficulty level. The fight was very intense, but with each attempt we were able to get more of the aspects of the fight under control and by the end of the night he did go down. We were of course very happy to be able to get him down on the first night of attempts. Furthermore, it was absolutely awesome to see the raid make very good progress both as individuals and in raid cohesion to overcome the boss. Good job Obsidians! Next up on the menu is Reliquary of Souls. Another astonishing day for Obsidia. We have only had two weeks in Mount Hyjal. On the first we cleared up to Archimonde and got some practice tries in on him. This week we cleared up to Archimonde in one day, and had Tuesday to get the fight right. And we did! ![]() The kill itself was an awesome one. Congratulations go to Jozephine and Captn to get their Tier Six Helms. Notacow got an awesome sword and Morduk a sweet, sweet staff. Not quite satisfied with having triumphed in the Battle of Mount Hyjal, we decided to spend our last raiding hour in Black Temple. ![]() The result was a very dead Teron Gorefiend. Seeing that I think everyone (I know I was) a little spent mentally after downing Archimonde it was simply superb to be able to kill Teron on our second attempt. All in all, this marked the end of an amazing raid week for the guild. We cleared a Tier Six instance, which in itself is a huge achievement for the guild, but we also cleared four bosses in Black Temple in the same week, which was also our very first week in Black Temple. Progress has been absolutely amazing. Let us keep this up and build on the enthusiasm and momentum we have. Good times, good times!Monday, February 11. marked the first day of raiding Black Temple for Obsidia. It was a very nice evening. Not only did the guild get to try the very last raiding instance in the game, but it was no mere sightseeing tour. In a little more than three hours, the guild downed the three first bosses of Illidan's hiding hole. Naj'entus Spine Gets Cracked! ![]() Akama >>> Shade of Akama
Tuesday, February 5th.By killing Azgalor Obsidia was able to obtain our first Tier Six tokens. Azgalor went down at our very first try even with a rough start. These things may or may not have been seen in Officer's Chat. Captn: FS, 1500ms, I can't tank like this... Everyone else:Go go, wasting time = bad! Captn: Fuck it, let's just go then... Result: ![]() It felt pretty awesome to be able to take him down, even more so seeing that it was our very first try. Congratulations must go out to Touchme and Sikes for getting their respective class Tier Six gloves. Amazing loot and amazing progress for the guild; being able to get the Tokens in our first week of raiding Mount Hyjal. [Gronnstalker's Gloves] [Lightbringer Gloves] [Boundless Agony] We finished off the evening getting some good practice in on Archimonde. Judging by the attempts, by the fact that we went with 24 people and sorely lacked decursers, the fight seemed manageable and hopefully we will be able to build upon the successes and good times of this week and get him down next week. For this coming reset, the first thing on the agenda is to re-clear Lady Vashj and Kael'thas Sunstrider. We want to attune more people. Tier Six content is a ton of fun, and we want the ones who have missed out so far to get their chance to see the true end game. Time: Sunday evening.Place: Various, start in Serpentshrine, a rendez-vous in Tempest Keep and finally Mount Hyjal. Actions: Slaughtering of various bosses. Rewards: Plentiful loot, many an attunement and good times to be had by all. So after clearing Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep up to the end bosses earlier in the week, it was time to go back and show that last week was not a fluke. Well it was not. Lady Vashj and Kael'thas Sunstrider were both downed. Many a Tier Five token was to be had. At the end of the night, Obsidia ventured into Mount Hyjal for the first time with 25 raiders present. It was a blast. The trash waves were handled very well, and at the end of the night Rage Winterchill went down and we got our first Tier Six kill. Now can we go back and get some more guild firsts? Oh and yeah, we are still looking for some people to fill out our ranks. We are currently on the lookout for a Holy Paladin and two Priests, one Shadow and one Holy. Oh and kill shot! Good job Obsidians!
Obsidia is heading into Tier Six content. With both Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep cleared, our guild has shown that it has the ability to pull together and down end game bosses. The current plan of action is to consolidate on those achievements. Tier Five content will be run until we have enough members attuned to set foot in Mount Hyjal. I am sure all members of Obsidia is really looking forward to seeing the end game content; we have worked hard to get there and we do feel proud of how we have been able to get there. I want to thank and to congratulate all of you for putting up such good performances. We are all playing this game to enjoy ourselves, and it is certainly very enjoyable to see progress being made. For everyone else, Obsidia is always looking for good people to bolster our community. Any exceptional applicants are always welcome, however at this point in time we are particularly on the lookout for; Priests, Shadow or Holy Paladins, Holy Cheers, Porcelina |
